Review of the Sigma 150-600mm: Why It's the Best Telephoto Zoom Lens Out There

Camera lenses, to me, are like shoes. I have a ton of them, but typically only use the same two or three. My go-to lens is the Tamron 18-400 mm Traveler’s Lens. It is perfect for shooting close up or far away. What I really love about it is the fact that it is lightweight and is an all-in-one. You pretty much pop that lens on and photograph anything. Plus, it’s perfect if you go hiking. However, even though it does go up to 400 mm, if you want to capture a good image of the Moon or a bird in a tree, the distance isn’t so great. After much consideration, research, and watching YouTube videos, I decided to treat myself to the Sigma 150-600 mm lens. And let me tell you, it is the perfect lens for not only birding, but also for capturing planes in the air, the Moon, and even insects. If you are considering a telephoto zoom lens, here are some reasons why the Sigma 150-600 mm is the lens to get!

  1. The Zoom: the zoom is fantastic, no doubt about it! You can capture the details of a plane or the Moon's craters-- as if they were right in front of you. But, the zoom is why you would buy this lens!

  2. It’s not that heavy once you get used to it. When I first got the lens, it was heavy, and I was concerned that I would only get a good picture if I used a tripod. My first couple of photos were a bit blurry; however, the pictures got better after some practice and so did my back and arms!

  3. The automatic focus is quick. I typically don’t use the automatic focus, but it never focuses on what I want it to. However, with the Sigma, the automatic focus is perfect, not to mention quick.

  4. Image clarity is terrific. Image clarity is essential when it comes to photography. Having a lens that gets the distance and the clarity can come in handy when doing wildlife or sports photography.

  5. Price. Surprisingly, the Sigma 150-600mm lens is quite affordable. You can easily purchase this lens from B&H, Adorama, or Amazon for under $1,000.

So far, I have been pleased with the Sigma lens and have found so many uses for it then just birding/wildlife. If you are shopping for a telephoto zoom lens, I highly recommend checking out the Sigma 150-600mm.

Thanks for reading!
